VDMA well prepared for Olympics of textile machinery industry

In view of the cost pressure in the textile industry, the hot topic of ITMA 2011 in September in Barcelona will be: efficient production. Growing energy and raw material prices lead textile manufacturers around the world to optimize their cost structures and processes. “At ITMA, the German textile machinery manufacturers will present advanced technical solutions that offer excellent value for money by production increases and savings in energy and material”, emphasizes Fritz P. Mayer, Chairman of the VDMA Textile Machinery Association and CEO of Karl Mayer Group.

Textile machinery are no refrigerators
Ecological design and energy efficiency are the subjects to which the textile branch is increasingly confronted both by legislation and by customers’ requirements. Today more than ever many new technical solutions are considered with regard to their ecological efficiency. Customers are looking for support in decision-making, but often they become unsettled. VDMA has developed the initiative BLUecoMPETENCE for the whole range of its machinery industry.

Thomas Waldmann, Managing Director of VDMA Textile Machinery Association states: “BLUecoMPETENCE explains and positions the machinery manufacturers as the technical problem-solvers regarding the requirements of the society of today and of the future in saving energy, material and resources.” BLUecoMPETENCE will be presented at ITMA to provide a clear orientation for textile manufacturers. Competence is abundant: For many years, sustainability and energy efficient machinery and processes have been the core business of the German textile machinery industry and are the guarantors for economical production.

At ITMA, VDMA Textile Machinery Association will present the position paper “Energy efficient textile machinery”, in which among others the determining factors for a comparing assessment of the energy efficiency of textile machinery have been worked out. The paper shall help to make the discussion about efficiency criteria, “CO2 footprint” and comparability, which is held under the keyword sustainability more objective.

The German textile machinery manufacturers will present themselves strengthened at ITMA 2011. After two extremely weak years, 2010 already brought a clear economic recovery with a plus of 140 percent in the incoming orders. In the first half 2011 the order situation became more moderate with an increase of 10 percent compared with the respective period 2010. Due to the ongoing financial disruptions it is difficult to forecast how the incoming orders will develop in the months ahead.

The export performance was very positive. From January to June the exports reached a volume of 1.6 billion Euros, which means an increase of 37 percent compared to 2010. For the individual sectors, the growth rate was: Spinning machinery 640 million Euros, plus 61 percent, weaving machinery: 100 million Euros, plus 7.7 percent, knitting and hosiery machinery: 538 million Euro, plus 38 percent and washing, bleaching, dyeing and finishing machinery: 300 million Euros, plus 10 percent. The six most important export markets are China, India, Turkey, USA, Brazil and Italy. For the overall year 2011, VDMA predicts a sales increase of 30 percent.

German Innovation Day for Indian textile entrepreneurs
Another highlight of the VDMA offer at ITMA will be the Innovation Tour for Indian Textile Entrepreneurs. The “German Innovation Day”, which VDMA will organize with the support of CITI (Confederation of Indian Textile Industry), will offer the chance to entrepreneurs of the Indian textile industry to get to know the latest technical innovations of leading German textile machinery manufacturers along the textile chain.
