Tirupur Exporters¡¯ Association (TEA) has welcomed the decision of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa to provide interest free loan of Rs. 2 billion for revival of Common Effluent Treatment Plants (CETPs) in Tirupur. Mr A Shaktivel, President of TEA said the gesture has brought renewed hope to the knitwear industries in the area which have been shutdown since the beginning of the current year after a High Court order. The TEA President also hailed the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB) for giving permission to operate the Veerapandi and Angeripalayam CETPs. This, he said, would help 142 dyeing units to resume operations while achieving zero discharge of liquid effluents. In addition, the TNPCB has permitted five more IETPs to reopen the units. Mr. Shaktivel said this would help the Tirupur knitwear sector to start functioning normally and contribute to the sector¡¯s growth. |
