Volume of garment exports in Sichuan sharply declined

According to the statistics of Chengdu Customs, from January to July this year, the export value of garments and accessories (hereafter abbreviated as garments) of Sichuan was USD 0.71 billion, sharply declined 42 percent from a year ago. Garments from Sichuan are mainly exported to European Union, United States and United Arab Emirates. From January to July, garments export value from Sichuan to European Union was USD 0.22 billion, dropped 2.6 percent Y/Y, accounted for 31.8 percent of the total export value; export value USD 0.13 billion to the U.S., rose 19.9 percent Y/Y, accounted for 18.4 percent of the total export value; export value USD 0.04 billion to U.A.E, gained 6.8 percent growth Y/Y; export value USD 0.03 billion to Panama, dropped 21.2 percent Y/Y.

Responsible person from Chengdu Customs said, the main reason for the export shrinking from the beginning of this year were high cost of production, trade barrier and RMB appreciation.
