Pakistan Readymade Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PRGMEA) North Zone Chairman Mubashar Naseer has said that factors like a shift in orders from China, likely trade concessions from the European Union and recovery in world economy demand a pro-textile industry approach on the part of policymakers. Speaking to executive committee members of PRGMEA North Zone on Monday, he said that the woven garment industry in Bangladesh has registered 42 per cent growth in exports due to these factors, adding Pakistan woven garment industry¡¯s exports have also leapt about 40 per cent and are likely to rise more. He said that the government should release duty drawback amount of the value-added sector under the Drawback on Taxes and Levies Order 2009 scheme. Former finance minister Shaukat Tarin and former textile industry minister Rana Muhammad Farooq Saeed Khan had given assurances that the duty drawback scheme would not be withdrawn before the expiry of Textile Policy 2009-2014. However, these promises have not been kept. Express Tribune
