Macedonian: Textiles sector a priority for Macedonian govt

Macedonian Vice Premier Vladimir Pesevski has said that the textiles sector in the country, which was severely impacted by the global financial crisis, is a priority for the Government.

Vice PM Pesevski, who is also responsible for economic affairs, added that the Government is committed to creating favourable conditions for the growth of textiles sector in the country.

“The Government wants to develop Macedonian brands and make them recognizable not only in the adjoining countries, but also further beyond in other countries,” he stated.

The Vice PM was speaking to representatives of the Macedonian textiles industry and the Dutch Centre for the Promotion of Imports from developing countries (CBI). He thanked CBI for effectively implementing a series of programmes in Macedonia for enhancing its textile exports.

The CBI launched a training programme in 2006 for 22 Macedonian textile firms. This has resulted in increasing the exports of these companies by more than Euro 4.6 million. The exports market has also expanded and now covers Germany, Great Britain, and the Netherlands.
