Funding extension for cotton research is likely to be affected by the quantum of fund that the Federal Budget allocates to science centres in the country.
The Cotton Research Centre (CRC) has presented a proposal to beget an extension for its ongoing work at NSW¡¯s Narrabri, for another five years from June 2011 onwards.
30 co-operative research centres submitted their applications in the last round, of which four were accepted.
The sum that the Treasurer grants for the research centres under the Federal Budget would determine the number of centres that would succeed in earning extension.
The forthcoming round is expected to be even more challenging.
Any reduction in the actual fund size is likely to directly affect the number of CRCs that may gain extension support from budgetary allocation.
The Australian Cotton Research Institute seeks financial assistance to concentrate on several projects focusing on carbon energy, water and genetically modified farming.
