Asias Largest Houseware Fair Opens Alongside Textile Show

Green Products, New Zones and Pavilions Highlight Fairs

Asia's largest houseware show and a concurrent home textile fair are underway at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC), with 2,300 exhibitors from all over the world showcasing the latest products and services.

The HKTDC Hong Kong Houseware Fair celebrates its 26th anniversary with more than 2,000 exhibitors from 33 countries and regions The HKTDC Hong Kong International Home Textiles Fair has attracted around 230 exhibitors, many offering environmentally friendly products. Both events run until 23 April.

New Pavilion from Japan

Asia's largest houseware fair welcomes a new group pavilion from Japan which will join those from Australia, Bangladesh, Brazil, the Chinese mainland, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Macau, Malaysia, the Philippines, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey and Vietnam.

The fair's Hall of Elegance returns with 40 brand exhibitors, including Topchoice and Longda, one of the world's largest manufacturers of bone china. The hall also features a central product display area under three themes - Natural Beauty, Smart Living and Loving Home.

The fair's World of Pet Supplies returns with over 100 exhibitors and a new section devoted to pet food and supplements. Two pet supplies parades during the fair are allowing buyers to see the latest pet clothing and accessories on the catwalk.

Textiles of Tomorrow

Following its successful debut last year, the textile fair returns with exhibitors from 11 countries and regions: Belgium, the Chinese mainland, Hong, Kong, India, South Korea, Spain, Taiwan and Vietnam, as well as first-time participation from Indonesia, Thailand and Turkey.

Highlights include the Trend Display Area, organised under the themes Modern and Elegant. The section, designed to forecast industry trends, resembles model homes where the latest products can be found.

The fair's Hall of Glamour is back, showcasing offerings at the high end of the market. The hall includes products from Sharda Exports of India and Taiwan's Repar Industrial Corp, as well as Hong Kong exhibitors Delight Textiles Co Ltd and A-Fontane Co Ltd. A-Fontane Co Ltd and Lenzing AG are introducing a new line of bedding made from ProModal, an eco-friendly material.

Going Green

Both events are responding to the growing worldwide demand for environmentally friendly products. The houseware fair features a new Green Living Zone, with items such as biodegradable garbage bags, bamboo bowls and eco-friendly beanbag chairs. The Sustainable Design Inspirations @ Green Living Zone displays a variety of sustainable houseware created by product designers, as well as students from Hong Kong Baptist University. Designers created innovative home products made from used carpets, hangers and banners from previous exhibitions. In addition, a Green Product Display, located in the Hall 1B Concourse, is showcasing green products from exhibitors of both fairs.

Seminars and Networking

The two events offer a variety of seminars and opportunities for networking. Tomorrow, the houseware fair will run 3 seminars on topics including safety and testing, market trends and industry development in the European Union and the United States, as well as green manufacturing and the market potential for eco houseware products.

On day three, the textile show will feature a seminar on popular home textiles available on the mainland.

Global Missions, Rising Exports

The two fairs welcome over 120 buying missions from 48 countries and regions, counting more than 5,700 buyers.

In the first 2 months of 2011, Hong Kong's exports of household textile goods amounted to US$22.9 million, up 10 per cent over the same period last year. The export figure for household goods was valued at US$4.2 billion in the first two months of 2011, up 25 per cent from same period in 2010, with the top five export markets being the US, the mainland, Japan, India and Germany.
