The Raleigh, N.C.-based North Carolina State University (NCSU) College of Textiles is opening a state-of-the-art Textile Management Science Laboratory that will provide students and faculty with a global connectivity to learn and conduct research in a business environment and facilitate collaboration and idea exchange with private industry and government agencies. NCSU states the objective of the new lab is to be the authority on textile market competitiveness for industry, government and academia; and the lab will reinforce the College of Textiles' outreach and collaboration with the textile industry. The Textile Management Science Laboratory will offer computer software, databases and business tools and will advance knowledge in areas of the textile industry such as consumer awareness, trend analysis, branding, marketing, merchandising, retail, technology road-mapping, forecasting and supply chain management. The lab will be officially dedicated on Thursday, September 30, at 5:00 p.m. in room 4404 at the College of Textiles on Centennial Campus. From 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., students in the Textile and Apparel Technology and Management department who are majoring in Fashion and Textile Management will discuss experiences they have had in internships this past summer. Types of internships include new product development and sourcing with branded companies and international firms; visual merchandising including showroom and market positions; visual merchandising in retail; design assistants; merchandise analysts; retail buying at corporate office facilities; and brand development and marketing positions. |
