MULTAN (September 25 2010): Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association (PCGA) has opposed

the proposal to collect the Flood Surcharge through electricity bills and said

that ginning sector has badly affected with the hazard of recent floods. Spokesman

of ginning sector, Shehzad Ali said that ginning operation could not be started

yet in various districts of Punjab, Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhawa.

He said that 5 percent withholding tax is already being paid in the electricity

bills monthly. So to impose 10 percent another flood surcharge on the industrial

sector is a cruel step by the government that should be immediately taken back.

Shehzad Ali further added that despite of heavy financial losses, ginning sector

has generously helped the flood affectees. He demanded of the government to

announce an immediate relief package for the flood affected industries and should

announce the relief policy under the light of suggestion by PCGA.
