![]() Officials¡¯ intervention in this matter is necessary as such an unscrupulous activity would cost Ghanaian textile industry threatening the jobs in the country, stated Dr. Vanderpuije, who held a meeting to sensitize the traders about directives on the seizure and disposal of the designs of pirated Ghanaian textile in Accra. Dr. Vanderpuije was speaking at a forum attended by textile producers, distributors, importers, as well as the members of Textile Garment and Leather Employees Union. The textile industry of the country was employing around 30,000 workers and had over 50,000 distributors when it was at its peak, added Dr. Vanderpuije. Entry of pirated textiles into the country took toll on the jobs of many, noted the Accra Mayor. In a bid to ensure the competitive run of country¡¯s textile industry, the government will aid cotton farmers of the country to produce adequate volume of cotton to fulfill domestic manufacturers requirements, he informed. |
