FAISALABAD (July 01 2010): Efficient use of available energy resources is must to produce cheap exportable surplus and earn precious foreign exchange for the country, said Tanvir Safdar Cheema Chief Executive Officer Fesco. Addressing a save energy workshop organised jointly, Cleaner Production Institute and All Pakistan Textile Processing Mills Association, he said that wide gap between demand and supply of energy has necessitated the importance of save energy.

Government is already working on alternative measures to produce much needed energy on war footing. He also quoted the decisions taken during high level meeting chaired by Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani. He hoped that implementations on these decisions would yield positive results. He said that is saving 120MW in this region.

He said that energy efficient houses should be constructed to utilise sun light for illumination and wind for cooling purposes. He clarified that there was hell of difference between use and abuse of energy and Fesco was making consistent efforts to convince industrial, commercial and domestic consumers to discourage abuse and wastage of energy. It would not only spare sufficient energy for industrial purposes but also give sufficient financial benefits to them.

He underlined the need to save energy by major export houses to cut down the prices of their exportable. He quoted the investigations conducted by Energy Conservation Cell of Fesco and said that most of local industrial units are wasting 15 to 20 percent of electricity due to the use of substandard electrical motor, unskilled electrical staff and poor quality of wiring.

He said that this cell was offering its technical services free of cost and hope that most of the industrial units would avail from the service of this cell. He said that energy conservation has, so far, conducted energy audit of 50 industrial units with recommendations to save energy. Earlier Mian Aftab Ahmed Central Chairman APTPMA said that government should take immediate steps to bridge the gap between demand and supply of electricity.
