LAHORE (May 22 2010): Punjab Agriculture Department (PAD) has warned the cotton growers that they should sow traditional cotton varieties along with approved B.T cotton varieties so as the pests should not develop resistance against BT varieties. In an advisory issued here on Friday, the department said that growers should sow 10 to 20 percent of their total area with the traditional cotton varieties recommended by the agriculture department.

It also warned the growers to complete their sowing by May 31, 2010 as late sown crop has less resistance against diseases. Farmers have also been advised to keep their fields and surrounding areas free of weeds and monitor their crop regularly so that as if attack of pests increases then they could spray pesticides in consultation with the experts of the agriculture department.
