Phenix City, Ala.-based Johnston Textiles Inc. ?C a vertical manufacturer of decorative and technical fabrics ?C has announced it will shutter its Micolas facility in Opp, Ala., and consolidate operations to its headquarters. The mill employs approximately 120 people, all of whom are being offered the opportunity to transfer to the Phenix City facility. The company's warp preparation and weaving operations ?C including warpers, slashers, sectional warping and greige inspection ?C are housed at the Micolas mill.
The consolidation, which is expected to be complete by mid-2011, is part of Johnston Textiles' multi-year strategic business plan to modernize and streamline the company's manufacturing, research and development, and sales and marketing.
"The strategic plan was implemented to improve customer service by improving lead-times, product quality and operating efficiencies and allow for the installation of additional new jacquard weaving, jet dyeing, and finishing equipment to meet current and future market demands," said Marty Odum, vice president of sales, Johnston Textiles. "Additionally, the new plant will allow for strategic expansion and acquisitions."
Johnston Textiles consolidated its finishing operations to Phenix City in 2008 and its certified testing operations in 2009.
