Gohar Ejaz, Chairman of the All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (Aptma) has requested the Ministry of Textiles (MinTex) to intervene and solve some of the appalling issues concerning the textile industry like, removal of General Sales Tax (GST) exemption which initially was available under the Reformed GST, and the issue of gas load shedding during winters.
Ejaz, while speaking at a conference following the association¡¯s Annual General Meeting (AGM) held at the Aptma Punjab office, in the presence of over half the Aptma Punjab chapter members, said that, the textile industry is confronted with many issues, major amongst them being, energy security, high mark up rate and sustainability of free market mechanism.
He further stated that, the MinTex, Ministry of Finance and Prime Minister Secretariat officials should meet Aptma leaders to convey a message to the world at large that, the country still has steady economic policies in place. He also said that, the country¡¯s textile sector being within the top five across the globe, the lawmakers greatly need to focus on it.
NRO certainly should be focused on, but not to the detriment of the textile industry, which is a source of income for lakhs of people, he said and added that, it is any how required to guarantee continuance of free market mechanism.
