Chairman Standing Committee on Textile Industry, Haji Muhammad Akram Ansari, has said that there was a need of adopting rational approach for protecting the textile industry of the country. Addressing first ever meeting of Standing Committee here on Thursday at Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI), he said that holding of meeting in this export city was to ascertain the problems and difficulties being faced by the exporters and manufacturers engaged with textile industry. The Chairman further said that it is very unfortunate that textile industry was suffering adversely due to non-availability of sui gas and electricity load shedding and the impact of this electricity and sui gas load shedding will be negative on industry. At present, about 12 percent gas was being pilferage in the country and concerned authorities are totally flapped to avert this menace, he said. He said that concerned authorities are bound to provide uninterrupted gas to the consumers and to overcome shortage of gas was the sole responsibilities of the concerned authorities. Despite of electricity and sui gas load shedding, the consumers were receiving heavy bills which totally unjust, he said. Haji Akram said that standing committee will extend its full support for the establishment Pakistan Readymade Garments Technical Training Institute, establishment of Sialkot Garments Industrial Park in Sialkot and we will back the projects and adequate efforts would made for the provision of funds out export development fund (EDF) for both the projects. Speaking on the occasion Chairman Pakistan Readymade Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PRGMEA) Ijaz A Khokhar said Sialkot has become fourth largest producer of readymade garments and sportswear, particularly in Martial Arts Uniforms. Sialkot exporting 30 percent of the world-wide consumption of martial arts uniforms, he disclosed. Ijaz said that at present China is major competitor which is becoming uncompetitive due to the increase in labour cost. Now world-wide business flow from China is diverting towards Pakistan for which we have to prepare ourselves to handle this incoming business share, he said.
