FE Report

The 7th Dhaka International Textile & Garment Machinery Exhibition-2010 (DTG2010) begins today (Tuesday) in the city.

DTG 2010 to be held at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre is aimed to introduce latest machinery and technology to the local textiles and garment manufacturers.

Jute and Textiles Minister Latif Siddiqui will inaugurate the event as chief guest while Industries Minister Dilip Borua is expected to attend the inaugural session.

Textile and clothing industry, accounting for 78 per cent of the total export earnings, plays the most dominant and expanding role in the Bangladesh economy.

The organisers hoped the event will be a gateway to provide and creat more opportunity for Bangladeshi exporters to come into contact or deal with related manufacturers, regional agents and wholesalers at one place and source high quality machinery, equipment and materials, after the multi fiber regime.

The event will be jointly organised by BTMA and Yorkers Trade and Marketing Service Company of Hong Kong.

Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA) president Abdul Hai Sarker said, previously businessmen had to go abroad to source modern machinery and technology suppliers. But now they can get the facility at their doorsteps.

"So all entrepreneurs, especially the owners of small and medium apparel units, should utilise the opportunity," he said at a press conference at BTMA office Sunday.

BTMA president said "Textile and clothing industry, accounting for 78 per cent of the total export earnings, plays the most dominant and expanding role in the Bangladesh economy."

He informed that the demand of Bangladeshi textile and garment products will be stable in the markets of United Kingdom and United States of America for next 25 years.

"Bangladesh is the main supply source of textile product at this moment. Once upon a time Thailand was holding the position in the Asian region followed by Korea, Taiwan and India."

Mr. Sarker said "Now we are able to fulfill 100 per cent local demand of yarn, 95 per cent of knit and 40 per cent of woven materials. The sector can be more developed if the government provides power and gas supply as well as policy support."

He said that the exhibition will ultimately accelerate technological advancement of Bangladesh and help productivity and competitiveness to meet domestic and export demand in the Multi Fiber regime.

He said that the recent step of the government of holiday staggering in the seven zones for reducing gas crisis could save 30 to 40 million cubic feet gas. But still there will be a shortage of 500 million cubic feet.

He urged the government for a permanent multipurpose exhibition center near new airport area as Bangabandhu International Conference Centre is not good enough for this kind of display.

A total of 750 booths with world-class leading brands from Germany, Japan, Switzerland, China, Italy, Turkey, India, Spain, Korea, Singapore, the United Kingdom and the United States of America, Czech Republic, Malaysia, Brazil, the Netherlands and Sweden will take part in the exhibition.
