CNTEX Exclusive: Beijing Topnew Knitting Group Co., Ltd., Jiangsu Hongdou Industry Co., Ltd., Anhui Huafu Top Dyed Melange Yarn Co., Ltd., and Haitian Material Technology Co., Ltd. have been released recently their Social Responsibility Reports, which were based on the China Sustainability Reporting-Guidelines for Apparel and Textile Enterprises (CSR-GATEs), issued by CNTAC. The reports, covers their performance and some notable activities.

It was introduced that CSR-GATEs contained an indicator system that consisted of 201 indicators covering business production, operation and management activities. It was the first indicator system and protocol regarding social responsibility reporting in China, as well as the first industrial guideline for corporate disclosure on social responsibility performance.

Developments in China have led to Corporate Social Responsibility not just posing ethical or environmental risks, but also business opportunities. Increased environmental concern within the government and many companies offer foreign companies opportunities to contribute to building an environmentally sustainable industry. Increased concern with observance of labor law and the development of tools offer companies opportunities to stay on the right side of complex national legislation that in a number of Corporate Social Responsibility relevant areas complies with international law and to also demonstrate socially responsible corporate citizenship.

Social responsibility implementing in Chinese knitting industry has achieved significant results and passed important milestones with active supports and cooperation from relevant parties. However, as a project of historic importance, the achievement should only be viewed as preliminary in both depth and coverage. Severe challenges still remain. In particular, the changing environment, domestic and abroad, has great impacts on profit-making capability, and also influences enterprises?? efforts to implement social responsibility. As a result, enterprises need to continue their work with greater efforts.
